We have just celebrated Memorial Day. And that means many of our wonderful soldiers that serve us, are beginning to move again. Many of our framed pieces become farewell gifts. With that in mind, we decided to talk about the framing of military art and memorabilia. In the last 35 years, we have lost count of the hundreds of framing pieces we have done for our military. Besides the obvious things like art prints, coins, certificats, medals, pictures, photos and combinations thereof, we have done some very unusual objects: knives, field radio, sabers, berets, uniform jacket. But probably the most unusual is just “sort of” military. We once framed a full sized buffalo skin with a painted portrait of Chief Sitting Bull on it. Each and every piece you bring to us has a story. And we must admit, listening to and hearing your stories is what makes this business so great and brought us many customers over the years who have become our friends as well. Bring us your challenge and we’ll frame it in a special way designed just for you. With us, every framing brings the potential of another story and another friend.
Besides framing flags, others ways to properly display them can be found at www.ushistory.org
With so many different options for framing available, picking a frame can quickly become a very overwhelming task trying to decide on the right look for your treasured piece. Hopefully, this post will help give you some guidelines to help when deciding on your perfect frame.
The first step that needs to be considered is the location of where your artwork is going to hang within your home. What are the colors on the wall and surrounding area? Does this room have a unique style? Do you have any items within the room that you may like to compliment, for instance a piece of furniture? Lastly, is there a maximum or minimum size that the finished product can be ?. Having answers to questions like these are very helpful to us when you come into design your frame.
The next options happen once you have brought your item into our store. First, we will help you decide whether or not you would like to have a matting around the edge of your artwork. Keep in mind that if you chose to have a matt it will add to the size and effect of your piece. Everyone has their own preference when choosing matting. A general rule of thumb is utilizing a color already within your piece or your decor. Sometimes, introducing a new color may cause too much competition with your piece instead of actually accenting it. Matting comes in a wide variety of size, colors, textures and patterns. We are always glad to guide you in your choices.
Lastly, a frame must be chosen. Just like choosing matting, you want to find a frame that complements your piece. Again, keeping in mind all the same criteria we used when choosing the matting. The options are vast and we are here to help choose the perfect frame to showcase your artwork.
Since February is the month of Valentine’s Day and National Heart Health month we decided to run a special on all our hanging glass hearts and all our other hanging glass ornaments, 15% off till the end of the month!
The glass hearts are designed and created by Luke Adams. These ornaments are created using the mold-blowing technique. The mold-blowing technique really took off with the public in Venice over 1000 years ago, and even today Luke still uses many of the same techniques and tools developed in Italy over a century ago. The glass heated to over 2000 degrees, stretched, and then blown into shape. It takes several years to acquire the skill of glassblowing. To add the special touch each of his pieces are signed.
Another glass ornament item we carry in the store is the “Witch Balls” created by Kevin Robert Gray. Kevin has been creating his works of art of over 25 years using precious metals and recycled crystal glass. The legend behind the “Witch Balls” is they were hung in the windows and doorways of English cottages back in the 19th century to ward off evil spirits and negativity. Well, whether or not they actually ward evil off they are still a beautiful addition to any home.
